Dear Data People,
New Year, New Job, New Trends?
January is a funny old month. On the one hand it’s long, dark and features the infamous ‘Blue Monday’. On the other hand, it can be viewed as a reboot - both personally and professionally. It’s a very popular month to book a holiday, put resolutions in place, update CVs and seek out an exciting new role or bring new year energy to planning and initiating new projects.
Whatever your take on the month it’s just one of 12 ahead of us and, at DAMA, we’ve set a fairly major project in place and are excited for the year ahead - watch this space

Predictions for the Year Ahead?
Looking ahead to 2025, data governance and security are set to take centre stage as cyber threats grow and AI adoption accelerates.
Here are some of TechNative’s predictions for the year ahead…
Ransomware continues to be a serious threat, especially to unstructured data, and with AI tools now mainstream, businesses must balance innovation with responsible data use.
One big shift will be the need for smarter data handling. IT teams will need to ensure secure, seamless access to data and build audit-ready workflows as more employees start using company data with AI tools.
Data governance for unstructured data is also evolving. Companies will focus on improving data visibility, classifying information, and automating workflows to protect sensitive data while making AI-ready datasets easily accessible.

Data Analysts can’t Just Rely on Great Tools
The Value of Data Analytics Skills is NOT in the Tools You See. It’s in the years behind them…
When you use a data analytics tool, you’re not just using a feature set.
You’re leveraging:
➟ Years of development and refinement
➟ Countless hours mastering the techniques
➟ A lifetime of hard-earned lessons & experience

Is there a DaaP explosion ahead?
Centralised vs. decentralised data teams? 2025 - the year that data as a product (DaaP) explodes?
The concept of DaaP, championed by Zhamak Dehghani of Data Mesh fame, shifts how we think about data, from being a byproduct of operations to a valuable, managed asset with a clear lifecycle and dedicated ownership.
Decision Marketing highlights critical enablers of DaaP like AI, machine learning and real-time data processing - areas where data-driven organisations are already seeing pretty big results.
What makes these enablers so crucial to DaaP?

Digging into Synthetic Data
Where is your data housed? Data is central to the ability to generate and manipulate massive amounts of information and is revolutionising industries like healthcare and finance. But what if the data you require doesn’t need to come from real-world sources?
Enter synthetic data—a powerful and versatile tool transforming how organisations train AI models, test systems, and safeguard sensitive information.
So, what exactly is synthetic data, how does it work, and why is it becoming essential for businesses aiming to stay ahead in the era of big data?
