Jack Walsh hosted sessions in both Glasgow & Edinburgh, explaining typical uses of data in sport, and about his experience using machine learning to predict match outcomes in rugby union. But whilst statistically his modelling would appear to deliver trustworthy results, he emphasised the importance of context, highlighting environment factors that need to be considered alongside the performance data of the athletes, which can materially affect the outcome.
